Boxfusion wins big at Govtech Awards

For Immediate release

Local software company Boxfusion Solutions has been awarded the 2017 SITA GovTech Award for ICT Service Delivery and Transformation in Local Government for their Smartgov for Citizens app and was the only entrant to reach the final stages of two awards.

“We’re delighted to have been honoured by this award,” says Xolile Ndlangana, Marketing and Sales Director for Boxfusion. “We’ve known for a long time that our locally developed solutions have the power to transform the lives of ordinary South Africans. But it’s fantastic to be recognised for our hard work by SITA.”

The Smartgov for Citizens app was rolled out in the Eastern Cape municipality of OR Tambo in April this year, and sought to address communication issues around Water and Sanitation, Fire and Disaster services.

Through the app and its USSD functionality, citizens are able to report fires, leaking drains, burst pipes, contact municipality contractors, find contact details for local councillors and more. Citizens can log a report, and trace it to its conclusion, making municipal officials and contractors more accountable to the electorate in this municipality.

A report can be geo-tagged, and photos of the problem can be uploaded to the app for swifter resolution. Municipal officials have also noticed faster turnaround time when it comes to resolving problems reported through the app.

“Boxfusion’s software solutions have been rolled out across a wide range of local, provincial and national government departments over the past few years,” says Ian Houvet, Founder and Director of Boxfusion. “To receive this award from SITA validates the testimony we’ve received from our clients: that our solutions are changing the way government functions, for the betterment of all.”

“We will be rolling out similar solutions in Mpumalanga and Ekurhuleni,” says Houvet. “And we’ll keep creating software that makes the lives of South African citizens and officials better!”

The annual GovTech awards recognise excellence across spheres of government where technology is being used to improve service delivery and the lives of South African citizens. The awards also seek to promote innovation and transformation in the ICT sector.

Boxfusion was also a runner-up in the category for ICT Innovation and Service Transformation Award for Larger Companies. This was based on their work in the public sector, primarily through their Smartgov for Admin software solutions, which covers government functions such as financial management, HR, supply chain management and more.
