Digitising company culture

A recent Daily Maverick article described the future of work in South Africa as “remote-ish”. What this looks like, both during and after the current crisis that we find ourselves in, is a mixture of working from a shared office space and working at home.

Over the past year, many employees have been able to enjoy the benefits of working from home, such as no longer dealing with gruelling traffic, having more flexible hours and even increased productivity.

But these perks come at a cost. Many employees are beginning to feel disconnected from company culture and their colleagues, craving the “old days” of group work, brainstorming sessions, and chats around the watercooler.

Putting corporate culture first

While the term “corporate culture” might conjure up images of businessmen in suits but that’s not what corporate culture really looks like. It is the beliefs and behaviours that make up a company, and those beliefs and behaviours are held by and acted upon by the humans who make up the business on a daily basis.

Why connecting matters

Psychologically, humans are social creatures who crave connection. This is something truth many people have realised in the last year. Ensuring remote workers remain connected to their organisations and colleagues should be one of the primary goals of human resource departments around the country right now.

While collaboration tools like Teams, Slack and Zoom have proliferated to ensure productivity levels remain high, they don’t necessarily embody a company’s specific values. For that, you need something more than an open API software: you need a tool tailored to your business and the needs of your humans.

The smart app for smart companies

It is in answering to this challenge that Boxfusion has created our SmartConnect app. This tool can be tailored to a business’s specific needs and challenges. It allows remote workers and employees scattered across the country to stay in touch with company culture and happenings within the business.

The SmartConnect app creates two-way communication between employees and management. It allows staff to anonymously report issues, complete educational courses and training, allows for onboarding of new team members and even the uploading of rich media files.

From a communications perspective, managers can send company-wide announcements, host digital events, notify staff of outstanding performances, issue payslips, approve leave and so much more.

Having a tool that keeps employees, management, and teams connected with a click of a button has never been more important. Get in touch with us, and let’s talk about how we can transform your company culture today.
